Here’s a bit about our Historical Adventure  — Boston Bound

My husband loves history and what could satisfy his curiosity — Historical Adventure – Boston Bound!  The next leg of our family vacation took us into Boston and every day was packed with something interesting to see.  This area really needs more time that we had to spend so we did some of the basic tourist type of things.

View Boston

What a great way to see the Boston Area.  Take a ride to the top (well almost the top) and walk all the way around to get a view from above. What a great way to see Fenway Park, MIT and so much more.  take some time to review the screens to get some history of the area and a closer look at what lies below.  It was not crowded so we had some time to really explore the area, waterways and architectural of this amazing city.  We did head all the way to the top and enjoy a cocktail while looking out over the beautiful scenery.  Be sure to stop in the gift shop and grab a souvenir to commemorate your visit.

Aquarium

I do love me some penguins and really enjoyed hanging out in this fun place. It took a bit for the family to pull me away from the cutest little creatures on earth.  As we made our way along the center tank we were glad the people were moving slow because there was just so much to see.  Turtles, Sting Rey’s, fish of all kinds all nestled in beautiful coral and foliage.  There were tanks upon tanks of just about anything you could imagine.  One of the most beautiful tanks held jelly fish of all sizes. It was pretty busy but there is so much to see, so take your time and go slow.  You do not want to miss anything.

USS Constitution

A very big piece of history that we did see from our Harbor Tour and wanted to get a close up, walk the deck, check out the sleeping quarters, sick bay, dining and officer’s quarters.  The stairs were steep but I was so glad I got to explore.  The lowest deck was definitely made for people 5’6” and shorter.  If you don’t pay a attention you will crack your noggin’.  A tour through the museums made this complete.  It was truly an amazing experience to stand on the bow of this incredible ship!

Harbor Tour

You can’t start the day without a Harbor Tour to get a glimpse of some very important landmarks in the Boston area.  It was a beautiful morning but a bit on the chilly side, we came prepared though so we could enjoy both the inside and outside of the ferry.  Our tour guide was very funny and very informational.  We got a glimpse of the clock tower with a clock on all four sides but were informed that none were ever correct.  The unique blend of architecture a bit of the old and the new were along the waterfront.  We watched seals frolicking in the water as the planes took off overhead out of Logan.  It was a great way to get an overview before we started out on our day.

Freedom Trail

Grab your walking shoes and get ready for some amazing exercise as you experience the trail of our forefathers. Follow the brick road and be sure to take some time to read the signs, check out the cemeteries, the churches and if you have a mind to, feed the squirrels.  I only wish I had brought a long some acorns or peanuts.  They are many and will come and eat out of your hands.  We walked through Boston Commons and could have gotten all the way to Bunker Hill but we decided to see that separately and walk a little less in the process.

Cheers

For all of you that remember the TV series Cheers, you definitely need to take in the experience while in Boston.  It was definitely on my list and couldn’t wait to get there.  The inside wasn’t like the show but it was the inspiration for the show and I must admit I felt like I was part of the crew!  So warming, inviting, busy but so much fun.  Be sure to get your souvenir glass right at the table, spend less and have something to “cheers” with when you get home.

Sam Adams Brewing

If you love beer like I do, a must stop is Sam Addams Brewing.  We needed a break from the walking and so we stopped to grab a beer and pretzel as well as doing some people watching.  The kids popped over the Quincy Market to grab some lunch.  We had an opportunity to stop by there another day and the food selection was a site to behold.  Choosing is going to be an issue for sure, it was for us!

Bunker Hill

My husband is a history buff and so getting to see Bunker Hill was a highlight.  You can walk to the top of the monument if you have a mind to climb 294 stairs.  I would have loved to do it but still dealing with the healing of the avulsion fracture.  Plus, I’m not a spring chicken anymore either!  The museum is just across the street and also a smaller museum onsite.  Take some time, watch the movies and read all about it!

Museum of Science

Science was never something that I was very excited about but this stop was really very cool.  Learning about the dinosaurs to checking out robots and every in between.  There were 3 floors, 2 sides to each floor with more to see than time available.  We did get take in a 4D movie on dolphins and got wet in the process.  They made it very realistic for sure!  I took some time to really enjoy the section on the seashells and crystals.  Of course we had to stop and see the iguanas, turtles, slough and monkeys — there were some other interesting creatures too.  Staff member had a boa constrictor out for us to view, I took the long way around!  There is just something for everyone here.

Boston Commons

It was a great day to tour the city and our Historical Adventure — Boston Bound was not complete without a visit through the Boston Commons area.  After a great meal at Cheers, we needed to take a walk and then start the freedom trail.  The leaves were falling, the squirrels were grabbing fallen acorns and even eating out of people’s hands.  The beautiful sculptures really tell the historical tale of a time long ago.  It was so neat to see people just hanging out in the park enjoying a picnic, relaxing or simply reading a book.  There were also a lot of pups playing and meeting new friends along the way.
