Baker City Oregon is home to an awesome brewery: Barley Brown’s Beer. Located downtown Barker City with two locations right across from each other. Grab a bite and a brew at the restaurant and then jump across the street to the tap house for more of their great beer selection.
Down-Home Atmosphere
In both the restaurant and tap house there is a true down home feeling. As a result, people are friendly and it isn’t long before you feel right at home. The restaurant is rustic, authentic which results in a small town atmosphere. Grab a seat at the bar, one of the tables by the windows or in booth deep in the restaurant. The tap house has a more industrial feel, especially with the brewing in the back which you can see through the windows. Both locations have their own unique Barley Brown’s vibe, so you definitely want to check out both locations!
Abundant Beer Selection
The selection of beer at Barley Brown’s will vary between the restaurant and the tap house, you definitely want to check out both. Choose a mild, wheat, flavor hoppy or bold beer or maybe even one of each. The best way to sample some of the best they have to offer is to do a flight over in the tap house. Feeling a bit adventuresome? Let them pick your choices because you will be surprised at what you will get. It is a great way to find new favorites. Here are some of our favorites:
- Hot Blonde: “golden ale brewed with fresh jalapenos and citra hops with the additions of lime zest and lemongrass”. This beer is well blended with the ability to taste each of these flavors on your palette, yet they come together beautifully. Jalapeno is subtle at first but comes on a bit stronger as it makes its way down your throat. Just awesome!
- Shredders Wheat: “gold medal at the 2010 world beer cup, gold medal at the 2013 north American beer awards, American style wheat beer, amber in color and dang tasty”. As a result, they aren’t kidding, the flavor is smooth and refreshing which does make it “dang tasty”.
- Joan: “the fall replacement for hot blonde, this beautiful red ale is brewed with fresh ginger root and fresh jalapenos, making her hot and spicy”. Rich, robust flavor but not overpowering, this is a perfect blend with a bit of a kick. Especially great for those who love something different. Truly one of my favorites.
- Pallet Jack: “awesome blend of Columbus, citra, amarillo and simcoe hops bombard this ipa with flavors of citrus, tropical fruit, and a little bit of pine. The light malt flavor comes from 2-row barley and a touch of crystal malt. 2012 gabf silver. 2013 national ipa champion”. Not a usual fan of IPA, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this beer. Awesome flavor makes this blend one of Barley Brown’s most popular beers. I can definitely see why, it is also one of my favorites as well.
Growlers to Go
You can’t leave Barley Brown’s without a growler full of your favorites. Above all, they are uniquely different and provide style and functionality. These are above ½ the size of a typical growler and are metal – similar to a water bottle. Twist off cap provides an amazing seal to keep the beer fresher, longer.
