Just met an incredible young lady named Tasha. She is the owner of Starshine Cupcakes and she is only 9 years old. This young entrepreneur creates her own flavor combinations and makes caramel from scratch. I sampled three for this blog post and I loved every one. Here are 5 fun facts about Starshine Cupcakes.
Fun Fact #5 – Wholesome Ingredients
Tasha’s initially focused her creations on meeting the nutritional needs of her family. Several relatives are allergic to gluten, so all of her cupcakes are gluten free. If she didn’t tell me, I would not have known. The flavors are out of this world. Who knew healthy could taste so good! Tasha is currently looking at more ways to create healthy, flavorful cupcakes without losing the quality of the cupcake. She wants now to work on making dairy-free cupcakes because she likes to make her family happy.
Fun Fact #4 – Styled to Every Person/Every Occasion
Tasha started out doing themed school projects which featured the flavors that represented the historical person. Last year, Tasha made the “London Fog” to describe the life and story of Pocahontas’ meeting with the King and Queen of England. She loves doing birthday parties but is open to working any event where you want to feature amazing cupcakes. All she needs from you, the event and the person’s favorite flavors.
Fun Fact #3 – Passion for Flavor
All the fun flavors come from Tasha’s imagination. She loves to go onto Pinterest which is where she gets the recipes, but the flavors are all her own. The ones I sampled are listed below:
- “Starshine” is her signature cupcake. This cupcake is a coconut cake with a lemon curd filling. The frosting is a whipped buttercream. The frosting is so light and airy because Tasha uses coconut milk to give it the luscious creaminess. Toasted coconut and a white chocolate star top this stunning cupcake. It is elegant and refined with a nice balance of flavor.
- Back to School” is a fun cupcake that any teacher would love. Apple spice cake with an apple pie filling. Tasha used a caramel buttercream with caramel she created from scratch. Who doesn’t love a caramel drizzle with a slice of chocolate caramel apple on top!
- “London Fog” starts with vanilla cake filled with blackberry filling. Earl Gray Tea infused in the buttercream frosting tops this beauty. Drizzle blackberry sauce and top with a sprig of mint, you have a unique cupcake.
Fun Fact #2 – Just Perfectly Yummy
I am amazed at the depth of flavor she captures in her various cupcake combinations. They are well balanced and no one flavor within the cupcake takes over. I loved how each flavor hit a different part of my pallet and together created a “wow” taste! At 9 years old she has learned how to create stunning designs, great flavor and creative combinations that leave you wanting more. It was all I could do to stop eating after each sample.
Fun Fact #1 – Young Entrepreneur
Tasha has grown up helping her mom in the kitchen. Yet, her love for baking really took off as she moved into grade school and began baking birthday cakes for her family. Her company was born when she realized it was the best way to earn money for summer camp. When I asked Tasha why she started doing cupcakes, she said, “I wanted to do something that wasn’t boring”. Her cupcakes are anything but boring! Since starting in May 2016 she has done numerous birthday parties and takes orders on a consistent basis. She loves coming up with new flavor combinations and looks forward to growing her business into something bigger. Her mom says she’s basically taking over the kitchen and she needs to find Tasha her own space! I can see why with cupcakes this awesome!
